Diaspora African LGBTI activists win status as U.K. charity

The diaspora African LGBTI activists of Out and Proud have won official status as a charity in the United Kingdom.
The organisation was founded in 2011 to help people who had fled their countries after being persecuted for their gender or sexual identity. Since then, Out and Proud Africa LGBTI (also known as the Out and Proud Diamond Group) has been strong advocates for decriminalization, especially in Africa.
Along with their participation in Pride events in the U.K., they have supported asylum-seekers, honored LGBTI African heroes at London Pride, protested at the Commonwealth headquarters against anti-gay laws in former British colonies, and demonstrated against acceptance of anti-gay churches by the Anglican Communion.
